Fox Valley: Woodstock outpointed McHenry 274-218 to win its fifth straight conference title and first under coach Jerry Miceli. And a familiar face led the Blue Streaks.

Matt Bowers swam on two record-setting relay teams and also set conference records in winning the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. The performance earned Bowers his third straight most valuable swimmer award; as a freshman, he was picked top newcomer at the meet.

“I know I don’t have the lap time that swimmers at schools like St. Charles and Fenwick have, so I have to work on my technique and mental approach,” Bowers said. “I’m happy with the way I’m swimming.”

Blake Redson set two individual conference records-in the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle-and swam a leg on the record-setting 200 medley relay team.

North Suburban: Revenge was sweet for Lake Forest, which avenged a 10-point, regular-season defeat by outscoring Stevenson 285-267 for the conference title.

Mike Brletich led the Scouts with first-place showings in the 200 IM, with a conference record of 2 minutes 1.09 seconds, and the 100 butterfly. He also joined Matt Brletich, Derek Neatherly and Mark Plandowski on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

“We did what we were supposed to do,” Lake Forest coach Frank Quigley said. “My guys showed they were mentally focused for this meet. We were pretty disappointed with our performance in the dual meet. We swam much more to our ability today.”

Neatherly also took first in the 100 backstroke.
