Three people died following a wrong-way crash on Interstate 88 in Aurora in the early hours of Sunday morning, according to the Illinois State Police.

The crash occurred around 4:03 a.m. Sunday, when a driver traveling eastbound in the westbound left lane of the interstate in Aurora struck another vehicle head-on, per the state police’s public information office.

The driver that had been traveling eastbound, as well as two occupants of the other vehicle, were pronounced dead at the scene, the Illinois State Police said.

Westbound lanes were closed from around 4:16 to 8:44 a.m. on Sunday in connection with the crash, according to the state police.
