Precisely what are your objectives, what are you trying to prove in your KidNews section? Repeatedly, articles reflect an inappropriate selection for young readers, are questionable in their focus and indicate lack of editorial judgment.
Even if I were not a former teacher from a family of teachers, I would be angry and upset by the Aug. 30 story in which the writer declares that if you are “concerned about what your new teachers will be like,” they can’t be any worse than the one “who was a little wacko.”
Instead of presenting a praiseworthy role model, you are citing an outrageous example, denigrating to the teaching profession. The message you convey can only be interpreted as one of ridicule, not respect. Teachers need laudatory, not derisive recognition from the media. The Tribune should be more sensitive to its responsibility in shaping students’ opinions.
