Women’s clothier Liz Claiborne Inc. said it is phasing out its unprofitable chain of First Issue stores, a move that will reduce pretax income by up to $30 million in the fourth quarter. The 77 stores, which sell moderately to better-priced casual clothing, will be closed or converted to a different format over the next 18 months.
