Carlos Baerga had RBI singles in his first two at-bats as Cleveland handed Kevin Appier his first loss in four starts.

Cleveland’s Mark Clark (2-0) entered the game with an ERA of 17.05–to Appier’s 0.46–but won by yielding two runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Appier (3-1) gave up six runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings. He had allowed only one earned run in his previous three starts.
