The village needs to spend about $128,000 to renovate a building acquired this year for use as a public works headquarters.

In a report presented to the Village Board, Public Works Director John Hays said extensive work would be needed at 452 Park Ave. before his department could use the building. Among the projected costs are $25,000 for the replacement of seven overhead doors, $25,000 for the construction of an enclosed rock salt bin, and $18,000 for the installation of heating units on the east side.

The village hopes to complete the improvements so that the department can move in before winter, said Village Manager Joseph Breinig.

The building-which has been used by a dairy, a trucking company and other small businesses-was bought for $800,000 after lengthy condemnation proceedings.

The dispute with the owner was resolved in a settlement late last year.

The building is several times larger than the current public works garage on Burlington Avenue. The property also has a larger storage yard.
