The search for the suspect in the killing of a Waukegan landscaper is focusing on Chicago, where police are seeking the public’s help in finding Kurtis Green, who also is known as Curtis Lee Miller or Michael T. Morrison.

“He’s fled the Waukegan area; we’ve had numerous reports that he’s in the city,” said Waukegan police Lt. Paul Hendley. “We’re looking for anyone who knows his whereabouts.”

Green, who is between 18 and 20 years old, worked for landscaper J.T. Smith and is accused of killing his 68-year-old boss while robbing him.

Police said they believe Green killed Smith as the two were completing a Waukegan lawn mowing job June 12. Green is charged in a warrant with Smith’s murder.

Based on autopsy reports, Smith is believed to have been hit over the head with a blunt object. He then was shot once in the back of the head, doused with gasoline and set on fire.

Police ask anyone with information on Green to call the Lake County Crimestoppers Program at 708-662-2222. Tips may be left anonymously. Information also may be given to the Waukegan or Chicago Police Departments or the Cook County Crimestoppers Program at 1-800-535-STOP.
