Pan Am set to fly again: Pan American Airways, one of the most famous names in the history of U.S. aviation, could be taking to the skies again. The Transportation Department issued an order Tuesday concluding that the airline is “fit, willing and able” to resume service. The new managers say that they plan a new airline, not a resurrection of the former Pan Am, and plan to stress safety. Based in Miami, the new airline purchased the Pan Am trademarks.
