A woman on fertility drugs who tried to carry octuplets to term gave birth Thursday to six healthy babies after losing two.
Rosario Maria Clavijo, 31, lost the first of her eight babies three weeks ago due to malnutrition.
When another died late Wednesday, doctors decided to deliver the remaining babies by Caesarean section in her 30th week of the pregnancy.
The surviving four boys and two girls, who weighed between 25 and 50 ounces, were in good health, according to doctors at the Huelva hospital, on the South coast.
Two months ago a British woman, also on fertility drugs, tried to give birth to octuplets against her doctors’ advice and lost all eight. Mandy Allwood, also 31, became pregnant after taking powerful fertility drugs and ignoring medical advice to avoid sex for a while.
Rosario and her spouse, a bricklayer, will receive government aid to help in parenting. They also have a daughter, 3.
