Gov. Jim Edgar on Thursday appointed Chicagoan Susan L. Kelsey as a commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District.

The office has been vacant since December, when Nancy Drew Sheehan was elected a Cook County judge.

Kelsey, 35, has been a field director for the Chicago office of the American Medical Association since 1992. She also is a member of the advisory council for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

“Susan has the credentials, interest, energy and skills to do an outstanding job,” Edgar said in a written statement.
