Parents of pupils at St. Thomas Catholic School in Crystal Lake, which serves both St. Thomas and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parishes, were informed this week that Principal Susan Polishuk will not be returning to the school next fall.
After six years, Polishuk’s contract was not renewed, according to Rev. Stephen Potter, pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
“It was strictly a personnel decision as a result of a normal routine performance review,” he said Wednesday.
According to staff at St. Thomas parish, some teachers and parents are concerned about the decision and may circulate a petition in support of rehiring Polishuk.
“In my heart, I am not in favor of petitions,” Polishuk said. “I would rather see families write me letters if they wish to make a comment. Those are something I can take with me and cherish. They need now to support the people here that they will be working with in the future.”
Polishuk said she has been happy at the school for 6 years and would not have left on her own.
“It is very sad and difficult to leave, but I understand,” Polishuk said.
