A 21-year-old South Bend, Ind. man was killed near Ford City Mall overnight on the city’s Southwest Side, Chicago police reported.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, the victim was standing outside in the 7600 block of South Cicero Avenue when someone approached him and pulled out a firearm, police said.
The gunman fired shots toward the victim, striking the victim in the head before fleeing the scene in a red SUV.
The victim, identified as Martin Isaac Cantu Murillo, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 9:57 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
