Yeah, sure it looked easy the first time out. Just wait until you have to face a real National League team.
MEET THE PRES
The Bulls visited the White House before their game with the Washington Bullets and met President Clinton.
Michael Jordan said he was nervous. “I’ve never had the opportunity to stand next to such a prestigious man,” said MJ.
That’s high praise from the only person alive who could get equal billing with Bugs Bunny.
FULL COURT PRES
Of course, maybe Jordan was nervous because he was afraid he’d be asked to make a campaign contribution.
LOBOTOMY LODGE
NEW GUEST: ROB GALLAS
Looks like the Sox won’t sell out Friday’s home opener. The Sox expect a crowd of about 37,000-7,000 shy of capacity.
“Everywhere we went all winter, all people wanted to talk about was Frank (Thomas) and Albert (Belle),” said Sox marketing genius Rob Gallas. “Everybody in baseball is watching the White Sox.”
Just not at Comiskey Park.
YOUTH IS SERVED
NBA Commissioner David Stern said the influx of college underclassmen and even high school seniors into pro sports is not the end of the world, but just a sign of the times. As an example, he cited the accomplishments of Martina Hingis and Tara Lipinski.
“Just look at those two young girls,” said Stern. “One is 16 and is the world’s top-ranked woman tennis player, the other is 14 and is the world figure skating champion.”
Right. But if either one was your daughter, Dave, you wouldn’t let her go to the prom with Allen Iverson, would you?
INDIANA WANTS ME
Another Bear has left for the greener fields of Indianapolis. Defensive lineman Albert Fontenot and the Colts agreed to a four-year deal reportedly worth about $4 million.
So if you really want to follow the Bears this season, take I-65 south.
