Whether you look at coach Bob Mackey’s career victory total–400 after his Stevenson team defeated visiting Waukegan 10-2 Thursday–or his average number of victories (20) in 20 years, his totals are impressive.

He has a career record of 400-201 at Stevenson. The Patriots, 30-5 last year, are off to a 7-1 start and are ranked ninth.

“I enjoy working with the kids and I love baseball,” Mackey said. “It makes it pretty easy to go to work.

“If I had to do it all over again, I would do it the same way. Hopefully there is more fun out there waiting for me.”

Geoff Hamelin (2-1) earned the complete-game victory, scattering six hits and allowing two earned runs. The offense was sparked by Evan Linderman’s two-run double in a seven-run third inning.

Lockport 8, Plainfield 6: Jeff Blaesing (2-0) gave up two hits in five innings, struck out 11 and walked one to lead No. 3 Lockport (4-0). Ken Tondini and Vince Serafini (three runs batted in) each had two hits for the Porters.

Sandburg 8-8, Tinley Park 1-4: Joe DeGliomini went 4 for 6 with three RBIs and three runs scored and Greg Wear went 5 for 6, driving in three runs and scoring four, to lead the offense for the fourth-ranked Eagles (5-0). Wear threw a one-hitter with seven strikeouts in the opener.

New Trier 9, Glenbard East 1: Jon Hilbert and Justin Nyweide eached launched three-run homers for the fifth-ranked Trevians (5-0).

Mt. Carmel 14, Lincoln-Way 8: Jeff Welsh went 3 for 3 and drove in four runs and Don Peulecke and Kevin Ferguson each hit two-run homers as the sixth-ranked Caravan (5-2) knocked out 20 hits.

Niles West 10, Clemente 4: Dan DePaolis went 3 for 3 with two RBIs to lead Niles West (3-1) past No. 7 Clemente.

Riverside-Brookfield 11, Argo 7: The eighth-ranked Bulldogs (3-3) were led by Eric Bava, who singled, doubled and tripled. Bava drove in two runs and scored twice.

Fenwick 11, Von Steuben 2: No. 10 Fenwick (2-1) cruised with a six-run first inning. Marty Sloan tripled in two runs and Vince Vidmer singled home two in the inning.

Andrew 6, Eisenhower 0: Mark Gruzewski (1-1) pitched the shutout for Andrew (4-1), allowing two hits and striking out eight.

Bloom 10, Hillcrest 4: Bryan Jones’ three-run shot powered Bloom (4-1).

Burlington Central 9, Byron 8: With the tying run on second base, Chris Wilkins struck out Byron’s final batter to earn his first save for Burlington Central (4-0, 2-0 Big Northern).

Chicago Vocational 20, Corliss 2: Ronald Crawford tripled twice and singled and doubled, totaling eight RBIs, for CVS (2-6, 1-1 Public Red South).

Englewood 22, Hirsch 1: Dionate Gray threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out eight, for Hirsch (2-2, 2-0 Public Southeast).

Foreman 6, Amundsen 5: Foreman (2-2-1, 1-1) used a two-run homer from Terry Vera in the fifth inning to win the Public West game. Vera pitched a complete game, allowing four hits, striking out 17 and walking one.

Grant Park 7-2, St. Francis de Sales 4-12: Brian Nowakowski (three RBIs) and Nick Storino (two RBIs) had two hits apiece as St. Francis de Sales (5-2) won Game 2.

Highland Park 10, Fremd 3: Marc Hocking’s first-inning grand slam sparked Highland Park (3-2).

Hinsdale South 3-6, Machesney Park Harlem 2-1: Kyle Nelson singled home Greg Schonhoff with the winning run for Hinsdale South (8-1) in the bottom of the ninth of the opener.

Lemont 6-5, Romeoville 3-6: Jason Taylor tossed a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and also hit a two-run homer for Lemont (3-3) in Game 1. Jason Talmage hit a two-run homer in Game 2 as Romeoville (2-1) salvaged a split.

Leo 16, Curie 7: Kevin McKinney homered, drove in three runs and scored three runs to pace Leo (8-0).

Leyden 12, Niles North 9: Steve Wacht (three hits) homered twice and drove in five runs for the Eagles (4-1).

Marian Catholic 6-16, Rich East 2-9: Dave Rodrigue went 3 for 4 with two RBIs in the opener and Kevin Hanifin had three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs in Game 2 for Marian Catholic (2-0).

Oak Lawn 8, Bogan 1: Ray Orban had three hits and drove in three runs to lead Oak Lawn (3-4).

Orr 20, Flower 10: Chris Cielocha had four hits and five RBIs and Arce Powell added four hits and three RBIs for Orr (5-1, 2-0).

Proviso West 17-10, Elmwood Park 1-12: Mike Miller threw a no-hitter with seven strikeouts in Game 1 and Pat McMillen homered in each game for Proviso West (3-3). His home run in Game 2 was a grand slam.

Robeson 6, Hyde Park 3: All runs against Ryan Weathersby were unearned as the pitcher recorded 13 strikeouts and gave up three hits for Robeson (2-0, 1-0 Public Southeast).

St. Charles 6, Geneva 3: St. Charles (5-1) scored four runs, two on Chris Allen’s single, in the final inning for the victory.

Schaumburg 6, Oak Park 3: Mike Nall struck out nine and walked one to earn the six-inning victory for Schaumburg (3-2).

Taft 16, Sullivan 0: Joe Colucci had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs for Taft (6-0).

Warren 5, Hersey 3: In the final inning, Travis Platt tied the game with a solo homer and Brian Falotico singled in two runs to lift Warren (6-4).

West Aurora 8, Naperville Central 6: George Pearce’s three hits helped West Aurora improve to 3-0.
