It was just a bit cool, but that didn’t deter more than 300 children in Aurora from participating in the Fox Valley Park District’s annual Easter Egg Hunt and egg-decorating festivities last weekend.
Nearly 100 children dipped eggs in various pastel colors of pink, blue and yellow and, after making sure that the dye had dried, placed them carefully in a variety of baskets. They were sure to leave enough room for the eggs they would hunt later in the morning outside the Community Center at McCullough Park.
Carina Reichardt of Aurora, patiently helped her two sons, Austin, 4, and Tanner, 2, transfer the dye to the eggs and not their clothes. This was the first time the two boys participated in the event. Although neither one had much to say about it, their big grins said that for them, it was a Happy Easter indeed.
Kathi Wencewicz, recreation supervisor and hard-boiled-egg cooker, said that this annual activity was egg-stra special this year. “This year our park district celebrates its 50th anniversary,” she said.
To mark the event, a couple of lucky children won Easter baskets crammed with goodies.
Those who came early enough to decorate eggs were also treated to a magic show, presented by Connie and Marie Gorski of Carol Stream. Connie Gorski delighted his young audience members with his balloon-sculptured animals. “How many times do balloons break,” he asked the moms in the audience.
He shook his head “no” to responses such as “all the time” and “every day.”
“Balloons break only once,” he proclaimed gleefully.
After the magic show, children gathered their baskets and headed outdoors, where they gathered plastic eggs filled with candy.
