The village appears to have found another tenant for the long-vacant 60,000-square-foot retail space in the Westview Shopping Center and is willing to offer a financial inducement for coming into Hanover Park.
Village Manager Marc Hummel told board members recently that Westview Shopping Center owner Bradley Real Estate Inc. is negotiating a lease with Waccamaw Pottery. The site has been vacant three years.
“Occupancy of the vacant space is a high-priority, economic development goal of the Village Board,” Hummel said. “As a component of the deal, the village is offering a one-quarter of 1 percent sales-tax rebate for five years.”
Similar inducements were offered to other anchor tenants for shopping centers, such as Caputo’s on Lake Street.
The agreement provides reimbursement for only the Waccamaw tenant.
