Thank you, R. Bruce Dold, for your wakeup call to us Illinois taxpayers (“Bill to restore subsidy for a pair of incinerators smells,” Op-Ed, March 14). The people of Illinois should know that some of their elected state representatives are attempting to vote through a $700 million tax that will bail out two polluting incinerators in the south suburbs–one bankrupt and the other barely solvent–and both owned by out-of-state corporations.
Illinois taxpayers should question if this is the same money that was supposed to fund public education, as we were promised pre-election. We do not want our taxes raised to subsidize polluters. We do not want our hard-earned money grossly enriching Houston businessmen, as they pollute the air we breathe. It must be time to remind our legislators who they represent in Springfield and that it is not some guys in 10-gallon hats who think they’ve struck gold in Illinois.
Ask your legislators to vote no on House Bill 1309, the incinerator subsidy bill.
