The City Council has agreed to participate with more than 20 other municipalities and fire protection districts in a study to determine the feasibility of a firefighting training facility at the former Glenview Naval Air Station.
The 25-acre training center site currently belongs to Glenview, which has proposed the creation of the Northeast Illinois Public Safety Agency. The agency would oversee the conversion of the land and infrastructure at the location into a training facility.
The study phase of the project is expected to last one to three years, and participating communities would be charged a fee proportional to their manpower. Park Ridge’s share of the first year is $9,833. During the study period, the facility would be available for some limited training.
Individually, the participating communities could afford to build such a facility.
