Kat Eggleston: If a folk singer knows how to spin a story effectively, we tend to look the other way if the guitar prowess or vocal technique is not up to snuff. Kat Eggleston not only has the soul of a poet but the voice of an angel, not to mention that the lady can play a mean guitar. Eggleston held a capacity crowd captive Saturday on the “Acoustic Renaissance Concerts” series at the Hinsdale Unitarian Church, weaving yarns that were powerful, funny and poignant from her new Waterbug album “Outside Eden.” Opening the evening, Leslie Smith demonstrated that while she is a strong singer in her own right, there is a fine line between wry cynicism and mere whining about the world around us.
