A potential deal to dig retention ponds to protect the oft-flooded Foxcroft subdivision might turn out to be too expensive, Aurora Ald. Tess Wackerlin said.

Developer Zander Bowman had pledged to dedicate at least 5 of 52 acres he owns northeast of the subdivision, and contractor Harry W. Kuhn Inc. had said it was interested in digging the ponds there for free so it could obtain soil it needs for a ramp construction project on Interstate Highway 88.

But since a tentative agreement in late March, Bowman has demanded three concessions that would cost the city $1.6 million, said Wackerlin, chairman of the City Council Environment and Water Quality Committee.

Bowman has asked the city to make Sullivan Road a four-lane street and add curbs and gutters from Edgelawn Drive to Randall Road, an area where the road is an unimproved two-lane street, Wackerlin said. He also asked the city to ease flood-water retention standards, she said.
