Jury pools assembled from licensed drivers, as well as from registered voters, can better meet the constitutional demand for a fair trial before a jury of peers, Tippecanoe County judicial officials say.

So juries in the county also will be chosen from people who hold driver licenses, not just those who sign up to vote.

The change announced Wednesday increases the number of potential jurors by more than 54 percent. There are 74,522 registered voters and 115,059 licensed drivers in the county.
