Trustees have given preliminary approval to an amendment to the village zoning code that would allow Villa Park to regulate proposed dance halls, dance clubs and juice bars.

Village officials recently met with an organization interested in opening a teenage juice bar and dance hall at a vacant site in a mall on North Avenue. Because this type of business could have as many as 800 to 1,000 occupants at one time, village staff developed a way to regulate such establishments with conditional uses.

Under the proposal, the Village Board and its Planning and Zoning Commission could review each request individually and could issue a conditional-use permit. Among the conditions the village would be able to regulate are parking, hours of operation, security, age restrictions, loitering and exterior cleanup.
