McHenry County Board member Joanne Simes will testify Tuesday during the hearings before the McHenry County Zoning Board of Appeals on a proposed gravel pit near Hebron.
Simes and her husband, Gene, are co-petitioners with James Tonyan seeking a conditional-use permit to operate a sand and gravel mine on 226 acres at Illinois Highway 173 and Kemman Road. The Simeses own the property and will sell it to Tonyan if the conditional use is granted.
The hearings will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with Simes scheduled to begin her testimony at 6:30 p.m.
James Young, an attorney for five adjacent landowners to the proposed pit, requested that Simes appear before the board to answer questions about how land is farmed now, and continued agricultural uses during and after the mining.
