Mexico’s navy scooped up more than two tons of cocaine from the Pacific Ocean after it had been dumped by a fishing boat, the government said Friday.

The attorney general’s office said three vessels and two helicopters seized 1,106 packets of the drug from the waters off the coast of the state of Guerrero. Its total weight was 2.3 tons, officials said.

They said they believe the drug was to be picked up by speedboats and taken ashore. A routine drug-detection flight spotted the floating packets.
