Nicole Kacor stepped out of the shadows Monday to lead the second-ranked Mother McAuley volleyball team to a 15-4, 6-15, 16-14 victory over visiting Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin.

Kacor had been overshadowed in her varsity career on talent-laden Mighty Mac teams that had captured the Class AA state championship two out of the last three years.

But on Monday, the 6-foot senior had a team-high 14 kills to lead the attack in the non-conference matchup.

Angie LaPorte dished out 21 assists while Robyn Goukas, a second-team all-stater from Florida and daughter of ex-NBA player and coach Matt Goukas, chipped in with seven kills.

Heather Thomas added six blocks.
