Another baseball season has come and gone, and I have come away with these impressions:
– The Cubs imploded early; the Sox exploded late.
– The Cubs played their home games in a friendly garden; the Sox played theirs in a hostile quarry.
– As usual, Cubs fans came from fancy suburbs like Winnetka and Northbrook; Sox fans came from practical places like Cicero and Dolton.
– Cubs fans doggedly accepted defeat, but came to Wrigley anyway; Sox fans despised losing and deserted Comiskey with a vengeance.
– Cubs fans routinely shrugged at dismal player performance; Sox fans blamed everyone and everything, including phases of the moon.
It’s anyone’s guess what to expect in 1998, but you can bet that ticket and hot dog prices will increase at both parks. Hey, bring on the Bulls!
