Merriann “Mickey” Turry, 79, an advocate and fundraiser for the disabled, died Tuesday in Rush North Shore Medical Center in Skokie.
A native of Chicago, she moved with her husband to Skokie about 35 years ago. Mrs. Turry worked for many years as a dental hygienist in the office of Dr. Joseph Gordon. For the past 15 years, she did volunteer fundraising for Misericordia Home North, which cares for cerebral palsy patients.
Her husband, Philip Turry, said his wife helped raise money for the defunct Sheila Kellman Asthmatic Foundation in Chicago.
Other survivors includetwo sons, Brian and Gerald; a daughter, Reada Sabes; a sister; and five grandchildren. A service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday in Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 W. Rand Rd., Arlington Heights.
