Idex Corp., Northbrook, said it may sell its heavy-duty engine parts and metal-tooling units in an effort to focus on its less-cyclical pump, clamp and fluid-handling products businesses. The company said it hired BancAmerica Robertson Stephens to find “strategic alternatives” for the profitable Strippit and Vibratech units. The units generate about $85 million a year in sales, or 15 percent of last year’s total revenue of $562.6 million, and $9 million annual operating profits, or 18 percent of earnings.
