The president of the board of the Crystal Lake Public Library Wednesday night said he wanted to follow the lead of other libraries in the area and explore the idea of getting endowment funds.

The president, Jim Wright, asked the staff to find out how many libraries have endowment funds and how they were established.

Wright told board members that the library’s building funds are nearly exhausted as a result of construction of a major library addition.

Because of the construction, the library’s only usable entrance is off the parking lot.

Trustee Darrel Gavle said the front entrance to the library at 126 W. Paddock St. will not be open for 6 to 16 weeks.

He said the concrete has been poured for the stairs and the front entrance, but drawings for handrails have not yet been finished.

He also said it has not yet been decided whether the front entrance to the parking lot will have two lanes with security gates or one.
