An unusual parcel of land proposed for annexation brought a number of issues before the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Village Atty. Ray Meader said Monday the village’s goal was to “exert the most control we could” over the development of 20 acres south of 135th Street and east of Illinois Highway 53.

The owner, Wally Vinckus, wants to operate a self-storage business that eventually will include an office building and possibly provide some outdoor storage for vehicles. A planned unit development might include some apartments, as well.

The property’s neighbors include the village’s waste water-treatment plant, the Crazy Rock Gentlemen’s Club, which Vinckus also owns, and Material Services Corp., Meader said.

The village is looking for the “least offensive use,” Meader said. “We don’t want Crazy Rock to be transferred to the front of the piece (of property).”

Vinckus said he was willing to work with the village.

Chairman Don Rickard said the commission wants to be sure the land proposed for a storage business is stable enough to support the storage containers.
