Walgreen Co., Deerfield, reported that January sales for stores open for at least a year rose 9.6 percent while total sales increased about 14.9 percent, to $1.26 billion from $1.1 billion a year earlier. Same-store sales for the first five months of the fiscal year rose 9.1 percent while total sales gained 14.2 percent, to $6.37 billion from $5.58 billion.
