Watch out: All the talk at the women’s hockey competition is centered on the expected United States-Canada gold-medal game.

Not so fast, says U.S. coach Ben Smith.

“People who think there aren’t going to be surprises are probably at their first Olympics,” Smith said. “These one-game situations can be slippery things.”

Especially when it involves a golatender, the single most important position in team sports.

Said Smith: “I remember a great coach from Boston University, Jack Parker, used to say after a game where we badly outshot the other team and lost, `They should not call this game hockey; they should call it goalie.’ “
