Pentair Inc. said it will stop making its Layne & Bowler pump product line at its North Aurora plant at the end of March because of losses, cutting 60 jobs in the process. Pentair, a St. Paul-based diversified manufacturer with 1997 sales of $1.8 billion, bought the Layne & Bowler line along with three other brand-name pump businesses from General Signal Corp. in August. Pentair said the Layne & Bowler line accounted for about 10 percent of the sales of the four businesses purchased.
