Keeneyville School District 20 committee of the whole members were told Thursday night that the district needs to fine-tune its special-education program.

The recommendations came from Robert Henderson of the University of Illinois, who was commissioned to conduct a study in order to evaluate the relatively new program that began two years ago in the district.

“We’re one of the first districts with a full continuum of services in the state, and the board felt it was time we got some feedback on how we were doing,” said Supt. Anthony Przeklasa. “The report we received isn’t all glowing, and there are some things we’ve been advised to do. It’s kind of what we were hoping for.”

Ed Cancio, the district’s director of special education, said before the meeting that Henderson’s recommendations focus largely on staff development and more collaboration with the district’s regular teachers.
