Police were searching late Thursday for a man who apparently removed a 4-year-old girl from an Englewood preschool, sexually assaulted her in a nearby public housing complex, then returned her to the school.

The victim, a student at the Villa Pri Child Development Center in the 6000 block of South Racine Avenue, told her grandmother about the Wednesday assault, Police Lt. Frank Trigg said.

He said that it was unclear how the girl was removed from the school.
