Seven businesses and restaurants in Bartlett were caught selling either alcohol or tobacco to a minor during a sting operation by Bartlett Police last week. On March 24, police used a 16-year-old to try to buy a pack of cigarettes.
Out of the 20 stores, police issued a citation to three sales clerks for selling tobacco to a minor. Cited stores, according to police, were White Hen Pantry, 125 E. Lake St.; Clark Oil, 575 W. Lake St.; and Amoco Split Second, 5590 County Farm Rd.
This was the second tobacco violation in the last three years for Amoco Split Second; the other two stores were first-time offenders. The penalty can range from $25 to $500.
Police also checked out 19 stores and restaurants to see if they were adhering to liquor laws. This time police used a 20-year-old to try to buy beer or wine. Three stores and a restaurant could face fines as high as $1,000.
But Sgt. Richard Stickling said another two businesses may end up with suspended liquor licenses. El Farro Restaurant, 161 E. Lake St., is a third-time offender. Butera Foods, 399 Bartlett Plaza, received its fourth citation.
