Repairing infrastructure, purchasing a new squad car and hiring a new police officer will be top priorities as the village prepares its budget for next year.

According to acting Village President Kevin Brusek, who met with the Village Board’s Finance Committee Monday night to begin the budget process, Richmond takes in about $340,000 a year in revenue. Half of that amount comes from property taxes, half from sales tax, Brusek said.

“We don’t generate a lot of money,” he said. “We have to be prudent, and we have to finish projects we started.”

Brusek said that next year the village will repair its ailing water system. The village has two wells, one of which was drilled in 1920.

The village will improve its water treatment plants, which have problems with ammonia nitrate levels that exceed U.S. EPA standards.

The village plans to purchase a new squad car for about $19,000 and to set $3,000 aside to train a new police officer next year.
