Construction work on the new Cherry Hill School building is six weeks ahead of schedule, an architect told the New Lenox Elementary District 122 School Board.
Architect Ron Wrobel said Tuesday that exterior and interior work are near completion.
Light fixtures and floor tiles are installed in some classrooms, so “you get a good feel for what a classroom is going to look like,” he said.
Al Kelchner, the construction project manager, said teachers will be able to get into the building and set up their classrooms for next year by June 15.
Site work, such as landscaping and grading, should be done by Aug. 1, Kelchner said.
The new Cherry Hill School, due to open in the fall, is to be the kindergarten center for the school district. The existing building will be demolished after the 1997-98 school year ends.
In other business, Chris Bulmann, the school board secretary, said a proposal to offer computer classes to area residents in cooperation with the New Lenox Park District appears likely to go forward.
