One year has made a big difference for Tiger Woods. During that span, he has gone from superhuman to just human. If he keeps up this slide, he will be an amoeba in five years.
It seems Woods won’t win every Masters after all. Woods didn’t play poorly, finishing the closing round with a 2-under 70.
Yet Woods found he almost had to apologize for finishing in a tie for eighth. That’s more than respectable, but not the display that thrilled the world last year.
Well, here’s a news flash from Woods.
“I’m human,” Woods said. “I’m just like you. I’m just like everyone else. The only thing I can say about my game is I go out and give it everything I have. Sometimes I’ll shoot like I did last year, and sometimes it’ll be like this year.”
The tournament was a complete struggle for Woods. He never got the birdie machine going, playing mostly uninspiring golf. He finished 3 under, 15 shots off of last year’s record pace.
Still, Woods was pleased because he knew it could have been much worse.
“I got every ounce (out of my game),” Woods said. “I squeezed the towel dry this week, big-time. It’s one of those tournaments I’m very proud of because of the way I hung in there and still had a chance.”
Woods, who hasn’t won in America since last year’s Motorola Western Open, maintains he is close to winning big. He should have one less distraction: No more Masters questions for a while.
