Cary police are asking the public for assistance in solving a series of car burglaries and vehicle vandalism.
A half-dozen reports of cars being burglarized on 2nd Street, Pearl Street and Decker Drive were received by the department the week of April 5, said Cary Police Detective Ron Delelio.
“Entry was gained by breaking a window,” Delelio said. “Some of the vehicles sustained heavy damage to the dashboards in attempts to remove the stereo systems.”
All the cars were locked, Delelio said.
The department also has received a dozen reports of paint damage to cars that were scratched by keys, Delelio said.
“The keying of vehicles is widespread throughout the community; it is not in one area,” Delelio said. “We believe there is a connection (with the burglaries).”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Cary Police Department at 847-639-2341 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-762-STOP.
