A 26-year-old Carpentersville woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with child endangerment after she allegedly left her three small daughters in the care of a bed-ridden recovering crack addict.
When police arrived at the house, shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday, they found three young girls, ages 2, 3 and 6 years old. Upon entering the home at 116 Del Rio Road, police said they found the man asleep, and the girls roaming about unsupervised.
Police said the children, who did not appear to have any physical injuries, had not eaten breakfast, were dirty and were wearing dirty clothes.
Kimberly Gorniack, the girls’ mother, told police that she left the children in the care of a recovering addict and that the man had agreed to watch the children in exchange for staying there.
Gorniack, who left the children in the man’s care for about four hours, was charged with endangering the life and health of a child. The children have been placed in the care of a grandmother until the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services completes an investigation of the incident.
Authorities were called to the home after receiving a tip from a neighbor.
