Julie Deardorff’s article about college admissions in the nation’s most selective schools was well written and very informative.
The article draws an interesting parallel between selective colleges and the Ivy League, but it neglected to mention what defines Ivy League. The term Ivy League was coined more than 100 years ago to describe an athletic association made up of eight long-established Eastern colleges. It describes neither the most selective schools in the nation nor the top schools in terms of academics.
