Schaumburg village trustees will reconsider their recent rejection of a resident’s request to bring in another employee to help her in running a day-care center in her home.
Village Trustee George Dunham urged fellow board members to reconsider the issue at Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
Dunham said he had received telephone calls from concerned parents and day-care operators who objected to the community’s perceived crackdown on residential child care.
“I want it clear . . . that the vote to deny the original request had nothing to do with gender,” Dunham said.
He referred to the split vote in which the male trustees on the board denied the day-care operator’s request, while female trustees voted in favor of it.
Melissa Komen, owner and operator of Kiddie Korner Daycare, had requested a special-use permit from the village that would enable her to hire an extra employee to assist with infants.
