Village trustees voted Monday night to approve an ordinance adding two new positions to the five-member Municipal Playground and Recreation Board. The expansion is effective immediately.
Village President Lou Sherman said the panel had to be enlarged because of the advisory group’s growing activities.
For example, a senior citizen/recreational center is expected to open this summer and it will be operated by the advisory group.
The Municipal Playground and Recreation Board currently is composed of four Steger residents and one South Chicago Heights resident. Two associate members also participate, but cannot vote.
An intergovernmental agreement with South Chicago Heights allows residents of that neighboring village to use Steger’s park and recreation program at no additional out-of-pocket cost. The program is subsidized by the South Chicago Heights government.
Peggy Santori, a member of the group, said there are plenty of candidates.
