Tempers flared in Winthrop Harbor Tuesday night as more than 50 residents expressed concerns to the Village Board about a new restaurant planned for the village.
Resident Charles De Filippo peppered the board with questions concerning a restaurant to be built at 206 Sheridan Road by fellow resident Jim Funderburk.
De Filippo said residents were incensed by reports that Funderburk intended to open a restaurant with a sports bar theme that would include a beer garden and a volleyball court.
Mayor Robert Loy, Village Attorney Robert Long and Funderburk repeatedly stated the business would be a family restaurant and nothing more.
“We have no problem with the restaurant on that land,” De Filippo said. “In fact, we have no problem with an apartment or virtually anything else there. Just keep your bar away from our houses.”
