Motorola Inc. offered more than 5,000 employees at its cellular phone manufacturing plants in Libertyville and Harvard the option of taking one to three months of unpaid leave this summer as the plants gear up for production of digital equipment in the fall. Motorola quickly filled its quota of 500 employees to take the leaves, said a spokesman. Employees can collect unemployment compensation during these leaves. Meanwhile, Motorola, France Telecom SA and three Egyptian partners have won a $562 million contract to supply mobile phone services in Egypt, according to Agence France Presse.
