Quaker Oats Co. confirmed it has raised the prices of its ready-to-eat cereals an average of 3.8 percent and its hot cereal line 3.5 percent. The increase, which does not affect Quaker’s bagged cereals, went into effect Monday but will “take a little time” to reach the consumer level, a spokesman said. The increase is meant to offset the rising costs of doing business, he said, adding that commodity, labor and communications costs are all up. The last price adjustment by Quaker came in mid-1996–a 15.1 percent decrease.
