A candle left unattended on a bedroom dresser started a fire Tuesday night that caused an estimated $20,000 damage to a one-story home at 516 W. Hawley St. Fire Department Capt. Kurt Sorby said flames were shooting out of a bedroom window when firefighters arrived shortly after 7:30 p.m.. Sorby said the fire was contained to the bedroom, but the rest of the house sustained smoke damage. The Mundelein and Countryside fire departments contained the fire in about 20 minutes, Sorby said. No one was injured.
