The Great Room in Frankfort presents an array of classic and contemporary home accessories.
Owners Michael and Carla Brosy tapped their experience in retail and wholesale (both worked as buyers for a variety of department stores) to assemble a stylish inventory, which debuted in August. They offer a gift registry as well as decorating and botanical design services.
“We have to have a point of difference from the big department stores,” explains Michael Brosy. “The beauty of this industry is that there is so much out there. We can offer a different selection.”
With a strong focus on the tabletop, the Brosys feature Australian and Portuguese pottery. Robert Gordon’s Wild Poppy from Australia is a best-seller. The dishwasher-, oven- and microwave-safe pottery sells for $90 per place setting or may be purchased open stock. There’s also the “Australian Dinner for Two” set, which features an interpretation of a piece of art and sells for $275. According to Brosy, it’s a popular item with empty nesters who are settling into a new home or condo and giving the family china to grown children.
When it comes to crystal, they stock traditional and modern choices. Opus crystal from Czechoslovakia features clean lines and colors and sells for $40 to $60 per stem.
The store also features fashionable yet moderately priced (under $10 each) place mats and napkins.
Gift possibilities include coffee mugs and housewares for under $20. There is a selection of wood-crafted paper towel holders, accented with colorful vegetables, for $28, as well as frames, candle holders, candles, vases, casual window treatments and hardware and pictures.
An eclectic selection of eye-catching accents includes a fantasy fountain for $150, an old-fashioned metal watering can and faucet that offers the soothing sound of running water.
