Louise E. Rowe, 49, of Aurora, a former 25-year employee of the Village of Batavia, died Sunday in Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva.
Soon after graduating from Batavia High School in 1967, Ms. Rowe was hired by the Village of Batavia for an entry-level position in the accounting department. Years later, she was put in charge of the accounts payable and finances for the village.
“It was her first job right out of high school, and she worked her way up,” said her fiance, David E. Armbrust. “She was well-suited for that kind of work.”
For the past three years, Ms. Rowe was a teller at Harris Bank in St. Charles.
An avid gardener, Ms. Rowe was known for her green thumb.
“She spent a lot of time in her garden,” her fiance said. “That was one place you could always find her.”
Among her other interests, Ms. Rowe had a special fondness for animals.
“She loved dogs, particularly strays,” said her fiance. “She had a real soft spot for any kind of abandoned pet. All she ever wanted was to help them find a good home.”
Survivors include her parents, Henry and Dorothy Toenjes, and a sister.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Yurs-Peterson Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
